Data Communications - 2010 Projections for Japanese Data, Mobile Services

According to projections by Fuji Chimera, broadband services will have 42.2 million subscriptions in 2010, growth of 121% in comparison with the number of subscriptions in 2004. ADSL (Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Loop) services are expected lag behind high-speed fiber-optic services. Mobile phone subs are forecasted to hit a growth ceiling by 2010, despite the shift to 3G services. Corporate subscriptions to 3G mobile phone services will continue to grow however. The Japanese market for wireless IC tags is forecasted to grow to a shipment volume of 200.36 million units, a 448% increase in comparison with 2004. Shipment value will stand at about 14.3 billion Yen (US$131.2 million; US$1=109 Yen), growth of 129% in comparison with 2004.
